Pride of Livingston Band Presents Spring Concert

The Pride of Livingston High School Band will present its annual Spring Concert on Thursday, May 14 at 7:30 PM in the Livingston Middle School Auditorium. The concert will feature the Livingston Concert Band, Color Guard, Drum Line, chamber ensembles and Jazz Ensemble with special guest artist pianist Alan Yagi.

The Concert Band will open with “Fanfare for the Third Planet” by Richard Saucedo. Other works include the beautiful “Air for Band” by Erickson and “Songs from Sommerset”, the final movement from Ralph Vaughn Williams’ “English Folk Song Suite”. The set will end with a crowd pleasing medley of film music from “Pirates of the Caribbean”.

Two student chamber ensembles, the Brass Sextet and Saxophone Quartet, will offer the Livingston community a chance to hear their Superior rated performances from the California Music Educators Association Solo and Ensemble Festival in February.

The Jazz Ensemble, joined by special guest jazz pianist and Livingston alumni Alan Yagi, will present a set of jazz big band standards including “ ’Lil Brown Jug”, “Ocean View”, “Groove Merchant” and more. A special treat will be Mr. Yagi’s solo rendition of Chick Corea’s “Crystal Silence”.

The Drum Line, Color Guard, Tall Flags and Letters will present new routines featuring John Philip Sousa’s stirring “Fairest of the Fair”, the Pride of Livingston Band Parade Competition March for the 2009-10 season. On Thursday, May 14th let’s fill the house and show our appreciation for Livingston’s talented high school music and dance students and alumni in their final presentation of the season. Admission is free and open to the public and ample parking available.
