Coyolxauhqui, Madre Cosmica Exhibition and Opening Reception at Arts Visalia

In January 2020, Arts Visalia presents Coyolxauhqui, Madre Cosmica. Coyolxauhqui, Madre Cosmica is an exhibition by Madera native Gloria Osuna Perez, which achieved great success in El Paso, Texas and in the Chicano Art Movement. Her work has appeared in a one-woman show in the Clinton White House, in the El Paso Museum of Art, and most recently, 20 years after her death, her widower, Roberto Perezdiaz brought it to the Madera County Arts Council’s Circle Gallery. According to Aztec mythology, Coyolxauhqhi is the Moon goddess. The exhibition consists of Gloria’s interpretation of the Coyolxauhqui wheel, along with ten paintings of women who the artist claims are direct descendants of Coyolxauhqui’s sacrifice.
Coyolxauhqui, Madre Cosmica will be displayed January 2nd through January 31st, with an opening reception on First Friday, January 3rd, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The exhibition is sponsored in part by Jack & Charlie’s, the Vintage Press Restaurante, and the Southern Pacific Depot Restaurant.
Arts Visalia’s Young Imaginations Gallery will display the artworks of 5-17 year old participants of our children’s classes from December’s session of Art in Sculpting.
Arts Visalia’s spring class enrollment forms are available at Arts Visalia and online. Spring classes start in February. There is a wide range of classes offered for both adults and children.
